Shire Post Mint, a Small Family-Owned Coin Mint in Arkansas
Shire Post Mint is a small, family-run coining operation located in Arkansas, USA. We specialize in licensed fantasy coinage, but we make lots of other things too. It all started with a dream in 2001 when Tom Maringer, the founder, bought his first antique coin press.
Tom had a passion for coin collecting since his childhood, and his years of knife-making gave him the metalworking knowledge he needed to start making coins. The techniques we use, such as hand-engraving steel dies and pressing one at a time, are the same used in the 1800s and earlier.
Since then, Shire Post Mint has grown into an internationally recognized company known for its attention to detail and high level of craftsmanship, all while still being super nerdy! We craft coins from officially licensed properties, and our original designs include Moons, Pizza Coins, Decision Makers, Bowling Ball Worry Stones, and more.
What makes our products unique is the way we create them. We hand-engrave steel dies, harden them, and mount them in antique coin presses to strike the designs into solid metals. The entire process, from engraving and striking to finishing, packaging, and shipping, happens in our West Fork, Arkansas workshop, giving us full control over the process.
The coins we aim to make here at Shire Post Mint are in-world, meaning that they could come out of the pockets of a commoner or king. In addition to coins, we also offer a variety of other products, such as charms.
One of our popular products is the Lucky Brass Coin with Four Leaf Clover and Horseshoe. This solid brass coin features vintage engravings of a four-leaf clover and a horseshoe, symbolizing good luck. The packaging includes some history about how each came to be so symbolic of luck. Each coin is packed in its own wax-sealed "foldy" and stowed inside a coin envelope, providing a tactile opening experience.
Shire Post Mint is committed to keeping the old-world craft of coinmaking alive. All our products are made in the USA using traditional hand-engraving techniques, solid metal, and antique equipment. We believe that our attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship make our products unique and long-lasting, perfect for gifts for significant others, family, friends, or coworkers.
