Six years ago, Griffin's identical twin brother Graham went to Iraq and was killed just two days after his arrival. Since then, Griffin has remained focused on running the family ranch, the last thing he needs is a distraction from the woman who has moved in next door. That woman is Julie Donavan, who is looking for a fresh start with her young daughter, running from something in her past.
"Holy shit. Two of you?" Julie whispered, stunned, as Griffin stopped and frowned. "I never went to Iraq," he stated, clearly perplexed by her initial question about whether he had suffered amnesia there.
"Then the uniform was a hoax to pick up women?" Julie questioned, to which Griffin replied, "Six years ago my identical twin brother went to Iraq. He was killed two days after he got there. Are you mistaking me for Graham?"
Julie had in fact had a one-night stand with Graham, the soldier, six years prior, and he was the biological father of her daughter. But she never saw him again after that, as he was killed in Iraq shortly after.
Now, the very thing she's been running from has shown up in the form of her new next-door neighbor, Griffin Luckadeau - the twin brother of the man she had that brief encounter with. Griffin is a hunky rancher and single dad, and he's absolutely infuriating.
As Griffin was busy putting his daughter Lizzy in the passenger's seat and shutting the door, Julie sat down on the porch, saying, "Did you get amnesia in Iraq?" This prompted Griffin's confused reaction and the ensuing conversation about his twin.
The Lucky Cowboys series follows the stories of this complicated situation. In Lucky in Love (Book 1), we're introduced to Julie and Griffin's dynamic as new neighbors. One Lucky Cowboy (Book 2) and Getting Lucky (Book 3) continue to explore their relationship, while Talk Cowboy to Me (Book 4) likely delves deeper into the family history and aftermath of Graham's death.
Despite the initial tension, when Griffin's daughter insists she wants to be friends - or even sisters - with the girl who resembles her twin, the sparks begin to fly between the two reluctant neighbors. The series promises an engaging exploration of love, loss, and new beginnings against the backdrop of the Luckadeau family ranch.
